Microsoft ® SQL Server 2005

Microsoft ® SQL Server 2005 is used to manage the ASCS™ database. Microsoft ® SQL Server is a completely separate and independent product sold by Microsoft Corporation and used by many different software developers and vendors to support their products. The last time we checked, you could access information on SQL Server at www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2005

If you already have Microsoft ® SQL Server installed, you can use it to manage your database. If you don't have SQL Server and you do not have the budget to purchase it, you can download and install SQL Server ® Express Edition. The Express Edition of SQL Server is limited by the size of database it can support, however, in the vast majority of installations this database size limit is not an issue. If you do outgrow the Express Edition, you can upgrade to the full unlimited edition. Again, the last time we checked, you could download the Express Edition at www.microsoft.com/sqlserver/2005.

Microsoft® SQL Server® Management Studio Express

Like Microsoft® SQL Server 2005, the SQL Server ® Management Studio is a completely separate and independent product sold and supported by Microsoft Corporation. Basically, it is Microsoft's tool for creating and managing your SQL Server ® database. You will use our ASCS™ Utilities module to create the data tables inside your database; however, you will need to download and install the SQL Server® Management Studio in order to create the initial empty database and set up two system user accounts.

Windows® Server 2003 (IIS Web Server)

We strongly recommend you run your ASCS™ installation on a Microsoft ® Windows Server 2003. Server 2003 includes Internet Information Server (IIS 6). IIS is not installed by default; however, installing or adding it to the server is very straight forward. You will also need to make sure the .NET 2.0 framework is installed and enabled; again, usually a straight forward task. We cover the preparation of your server in the documentation area of our website.
